Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 is simply a buzzword that refers to the evolution of the second generation of the internet. We've gone from static web sites in which only the creator had permission to make changes, to totally interactive, collaborative internet sites in which people from all over the world are able to add new information or change existing content. Web 2.0 includes wikis, blogs, and social networking sites like Facebook and Second Life, to name just a few. Web 2.0 tools offer teachers the opportunity to easily create a variety of learning objects which enhance the existing curriculum and provide opportunities for differentiating and extending student learning. The best part about most Web 2.0 tools is that you need no programming knowledge in order to create these learning objects for your students. It's quick, easy and adaptable to a wide variety of skills and concepts.

My Studiyo

My Studiyo is a Web 2.0 tool that easily allows users to create a quick review for an upcoming test or quiz, a means of previewing upcoming story vocabulary, or a tool for activating student knowledge on an upcoming unit of study. It's FREE and simple to create all types of "quizzes" for any grade level. Tech savvy students could even use this tool as a way to create a series of questions they think are important to a unit of study and you can post them on your website for students to use prior to the test.

Glogster

Another great Web 2.0 tool to try out is something called glogster. You can click on the link above to check out the Glog I made incorporating all of the skills and strategies from one of the third grade reading themes. Like Studiyo, it's FREE to use but this one does require a certain amount of patience and a bit more skill than My Studiyo. However, it can be used and reused over time, so it's definitely worth the time and effort put into creating one.
